Youth Rugby in Development for Spring/Summer 2027
The Escanaba Berserkers are actively building a youth rugby program for Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Registration and regular youth practices are not yet open. If you're a parent interested in youth rugby, we'd love to hear from you as we shape the program.
Where We Are Today
Building the program, not running one yet.
The Berserkers are exploring community partners, coaching support, insurance, and field time so that we can launch youth rugby responsibly in the Upper Peninsula. We do not currently hold regular youth practices, and we are not yet collecting registrations, waivers, or fees.
We're targeting Spring/Summer 2027 for a first youth offering. As the program takes shape, we'll share updates here and directly with parents who register interest.
Proposed future pathway
The pathway below is the vision we're working toward — a proposed future offering, not a current program.
Ages 6–9
Flag Rugby (proposed)
Non-contact, skills-first. Passing, spatial awareness, and having fun in team sport.
Ages 10–13
Skills & Tag (proposed)
Introduction to structure, positions, and safe tackle progressions using pads and bags.
Ages 14–18
Progressive Contact (proposed)
Full rugby with progressive, safety-focused tackle technique and personal accountability.
Coaching credentials, player-welfare protocols, insurance, registration, and fees will be established before any youth activity begins. We are not making guarantees about specific certifications or schedules at this stage.
